What transmission fluid do you use in a 60 Bugeye?

No. The trans in a Bugeye should have motor oil as lube, preferably 30W non-detergent. The transmissions in our cars were designed with yellow metal components that are not compatible with most gear oils. Use motor oil per the factory manuals.

A BMC tranny of course. Datsun 210 or Ford 5 speeds are different

I agree with Rick, use motor oil per the manual. And don't use synthetic. I tried it in my '59 Sprite race car and the tranny leaked like a sieve (which was not good for the clutch, among other issues). I switched back to conventional oil (as well as changed the seals) and everything was OK again.

Non detergent 30 weight motor oil or 20/50 weight motor oil like VR1 is the ticket.
