So the indicators on my car started playing up, being intermittent in operation and one second fast the next slow. Simple fix methinks...new flasher relay from AH Spares my go to folks here in the uk and brilliant service.
Swapped out the relay and got no dashboard reminder lamp but great indicator lamp function, messed about checking voltage and continuity, zero volts at lamp but good continuity. So diagnosed relay fault.
Now new relays are cheap so I thought I'd take the new one to bits to have a look, to my surprise I found a circuit board and electronic stuff inside so deffo not fixable with my skill set..I tried a modern square relay and got great indicator function but a permanently on dashboard lamp ...what to do...?
I took the ancient Lucas one to bits and found a traditional coil and contacts set up.....spent ten minutes cleaning the contacts and fiddling..reassembled it by re crimping the round alloy cover..installed it...perfect function all around.
Moral is fix rather than replace if you can and perhaps old tech is better......still very pleased with my new front floor mats that I ordered at the same time ready for Classic Le Mans so no problems.
