I got these replacement rubber stops for under the bonnet. The rubber is softer than the old hardened ones, and the screw, even with a washer pulls through.

Am I missing some little trick to get these installed?

I tried that, but I'll try to stuff a little larger one in there. Thanks.

Garm,

My recollection is that the original had a small sleeve that fits in a pocket formed in the rubber. I can't say that the reproductions are formed correctly, but here's proof my recollection is correct. This prevents the rubber from compressing too far. These are NLA, but you should be able to make one from some aluminum tubing. Check your original ones, maybe they are still there?

^ Gerard comes through again! Now I get to dig the old ones out of the trash and see if the inserts are still in there.

If you don't have/can't find the little sleeves, let me know. I have my original ones and can easily make replicas on my lathe.
