Ahoy maties. My 1960 Bugeye came with a nice, quick Datsun/Nissan motor but I can't find any info about it and now I can't order parts.

The motor number is R17649 (Nissan block)
Trans is 4 speed

Here are some photos. I can't find anything on the Datsun forums for a "R17" type motor. I suspect this is a Datsun Bluebird motor but that's just a guess...

Can anyone help?

Here are my questions:
1. What year/make did this motor come from? (I'm guessing a Bluebird?)
2. What are the model of SU carbs? (b/c I need new air filters and gaskets badly)
3. What is my transmission? It's a 4-speed (b/c I need a speedometer cable)
4. What are the most popular mods for this motor? (b/c I need speed)

Looks to me to be a Datsun 1600 Roadster (SP311) (Fairlady Sports 1600)

Gearbox is most likely the matching Roadster.

Carbs would likely be Hitachi (Japanese version of SU), not SU

Thanks!!!! Did a quick Google search and looks like you hit the nail on the head.

Once again, AHexp.com saves the day.
