Dave, if I’m remembering correctly, I got two of the three balls partly engaged and used a small screwdriver to push the third one in, all while applying steady pressure until the hub went in. The assembly was flat on a bench.

Three (3) hands helps, four (4) is better...

With the hub and ring clocked correctly, load all the springs (a little assembly grease keeps things where you want them) and with your non-dominate hand, apply slight downward pressure as you load the balls in position; you can get the first two (2) pretty easy, but DON'T push it home yet, only enough pressure to keep them captive, then load the final ball and send it home!

Thanks fir the comments guys. I wrapped the gear with a cable tie to hold everything in place and then slid the rings on.

That's how I'd do the uni-directional clutch...

... and the (3-pieces x 2) rings on the actuating pistons winking smiley
