I have an early MK2 BT7 that was manufactured in June of 1961. This tri-carb car has the original side shift transmission that it came with. The center shift transmission was introduced in November of 1961. With that being said, I'm looking at buying a replacement carpet set. Most of the manufacturers have it listed for the bt7 as either a kit for the BT7 (MK1) or the BT7 (MK2)-BJ8. My assumption is that the difference of a center shift car versus a side shift for the carpeting, correct? Was there any other differences for the interior other than that? With that being said, I'm assuming I would just order the MK1 version given the transmission type?

I got my carpet kit for my BT7 rally recreation (side shift) from these guys , mine was custom made as I didn’t want seat rail slots and I deleted the rear seats . Fits great and price was right even with UK shipping costs .Great people to deal with as well . I made paper templates for them to work off .

That’s not an oil leak , it’s my patent pending rust proofing system .

Hi Patrick,
I swapped out the side shift gearbox for a center shift in my 1960 BT7 so I needed a new set of carpets.
What I discovered was the tower for the center shift gearbox cover is covered with vinyl but
because of the heat the vinyl would loosen up and look like crap.
Because of this I painted the tower instead of covering it and glued the opening of the carpet around the base. (see photo)
This has worked perfectly so far but using the right contact cement is very important.
WELDWOOD Upholstery Adhesive is the best if you can find it.
The yellow area in the photo shows where I applied 2 coats of glue on the carpet and 2 on the cover.
Bouna fortuna,
Peter C.

I have a '62 BT7 3 carb side shifter that was manufactured in 1961 and I purchased replacement carpeting from Moss. The set of carpets came with the tunnel piece a mirror image of the real carpet. It was upside down when the template was applied? It took a while to get it corrected since Moss does not sell individual carpet pieces and they had to special order it. When the replacement tunnel cover came it was too short and likely for a BN7. It was now into driving season so I made do with the pieces I had. The end of the tunnel is a remnant patch. Not ideal especially if you are looking for authenticity. Any carpet sup[plier should know about the differences between side and centre shifters and the BN7 and BT7 designs.
