I was wondering about that Kurt. Some forks don't have that tab. In fact the workshop manual issue 4 Fig D.10 doesn't show it either. There is a slanted post in the cap that will receive the tab. It makes sense that the tab would prevent the needle from extending far enough so as to jam. This is something I need to be conscious of the next time I open the float chamber. At the moment I'm going to leave it alone.

Thanks,
Ray

If you install grose jets, stand next to the car and watch the dump ports on the float bowls. I've tried these a couple of times on various carbs on my car and none have worked properly. They either came from VB or Moss.

Back in the 70’s I used Grose Jets with great success, while none of my current LBC’s utilize them. Given the fact that they were such a simple design, I can’t imagine what’s happened for them to fall so far out of favor since then.

Their long standing tag line was “two balls do the trick”.

In my reading on Grose Jets I found a post that says the company was sold many years ago and apparently the new owner didn't maintain the same quality control as the original owner.

I'm one of the guys that had terrible luck with Grose Jets. They slowed the fuel but did not stop it. I'm behind Viton tipped standard jets.

Well the float chamber flooded again so off to the garage once more. This time a "Grose" type needle and seat (SU301) was installed. Only 1 because that was all the mechanic had on hand. He said it was superior to the old style so hopefully this is a 30 year old vintage part! At any rate the car is running well again. If anyone is having the grief I was, check out sumidel.com.
