The spark from my coil seems to be getting weak on my Bugeye, making starts more difficult, especially cold morning starts. I see that MOSS offers a Sports Coil by Intermotor, which they tout as dependable with a higher voltage output. Has anyone used this coil? Any other recommendations for a replacement coil?

Thanks, Ron

I'm going to ask the question: Do you have the original points ignition? If so, when was the last time you adjusted or replaced the points.

Coil choice: Many opinions on this but for a stockish motor use a stock replacement coil.

Thanks Trevor,
I should have elaborated. I have been running electronic points for the last 14 years. The engine is a stock 948. It runs extremely well once it starts. I do need to replace the battery. It turns over well at first but slows down after cranking a bit. I have an original Lucas coil. I'm thinking the Lucas is sensitive to voltage and the spark it generates drops off quickly as battery voltage sags. I was hoping to find a coil less affected by lower voltage. Might just be wishful thinking.

The electronic ignition is more sensitive to low voltage than most any coil.

Are you running a generator or alternator?

Trevor,
I did not realize that. Good to know. Maybe I'll focus more on my battery. Perhaps do some testing to see how low the voltage drops while cranking. It's has been in the car quite a few years and is probably due. Now I need to figure out who still manufactures a good battery?
