Well its been 1.5 years since I started down this road....I started out trying to keep everything period correct and have managed to do that for almost the whole project. Ebay and I are now close friends......
I am keeping my stock TR 250 engine setup and it will be on display in my workshop after I tidy it up. Everything I remove from the car will be stored in order to return it to stock if I EVER decide to sell my baby.
Engine- bought a proper 150bhp TR5 head from the UK . Bought an old TR6 block with distributor and the fun started. Rebuilt the engine, balanced, blueprinted with a Kent cam (280). A couple of goodies went inside the engine
. I'll port and polish the head in a few years but for now....lets get it on the road....
Rebuilt A-type overdrive transmission has been installed....2,3,4....nice.
Have a completely reconditioned P.I. system (throttle bodies, calibrated metering unit, S/S injector cables, throttle linkage. Distributor has been recurved for the 150bhp profile.
Phoenix extractor with polished S/S exhaust system. P.I. Air collector has been chromed and the period correct air filter box will be chromed soon as well. I've managed to find a company that sells braided S/S hose in 3.5/ 4 inch diameter so i'll connect the air collector to the air filter box with that.
Decided to go with the high torque starter so I changed the flywheel and had it balanced when I did the engine. I did not lighten the flywheel. I would prefer to have the inertia ...yes it'll cost me responsiveness at the low end but I'll accept that.
Putting an aluminum radiator from wizard in along with the fan. Oil cooler will be installed as well.
Saw a TR5 fuel tank with baffles but decided to just make a feeder tank. This will alleviate the
problem associated with cornering when low on fuel. Installing the bosch fuel pump conversion kit.
Now.....the big item....... as I write, my LHD P.I. TR5 accelerator pedal assembly is on its way to me....
.... I have been chasing it for over a year.....there are some that will appreciate just how hard it is to find this item.
Last week of april the engine swap will take place.
One more thing....Surrey top......got it....just arrived.....original , aluminum top.....
If I can, I'll post some pics of my P.I engine on the stand
Cheers,
Shannon
